CORRUPTION is a global phenomenon that jeopardises harmony, stability and security of a country especially when billions of dollars meant for its people are misused for personal gains. This was said by Pg Kasmirhan Pg Hj Tahir, director of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), yesterday during a joint-lecture with the Labour Department held at the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan. He added: "In order to effectively deal with corruption, the cooperation of everyone is needed to stamp it out."About 110 people from the Indonesian community in Brunei attended the lecture where Indonesian ambassador to Brunei, His Excellency Herijanto Seuprato, was the guest of honour. The objective of the lecture was to educate Indonesians working in the country regarding the current labour laws and the Acts from ACB.The Anti-Corruption Campaign was aimed at giving further understanding on corruption and the adverse effect it has on society.Acting chief special investigator Salamat Liman, explained some of the Acts and regulations within ACB while giving examples on the cause and effect of corruption to society."Corruption causes a long-term effect and the impact can be seen only when everything is over," said Salamat.Throughout the lecture, Salamat told guests about the dangers of corruption and gave suggestions on how to avoid being caught in the situation. He advised guests to uphold their principles, heritage and focus on what they want to achieve in the country.Last year, two Indonesians were caught bribing officials during two separate occasions. Many other cases involved entering the country without a passport or visa. The Brunei Times
